Highly visible along the west coast of North America, Seaspan is Canada?s largest marine transportation company. The company?s activities extend back to 1898 and figure prominently in the development of the province and its major industries. The offices of Seaspan International Ltd., are located in North Vancouver, where the movements of 51tugs, 201 barges and two self-propelled trainships are directed around the clock. Seaspan?s services extend as far south as Mexico and as far north as Alaska, providing water transportation for industrial materials. Seaspan serves the forest industry primarily, transporting logs, lumber, lumber residuals, petroleum products, chemicals, pulp, and paper to and from coastal mills. Also, oceangoing barges haul limestone, aggregates, railcars, steel components, gypsum, and general cargoes including prefabricated structures. In addition to marine transportation, Seaspan performs shipdocking and bunkering in the Port of Vancouver and Roberts Bank. Seaspan?s tugs range in power from 600 to 6,000 horsepower and its barge fleet is the largest and most diversified in North America. The company also operates 20,000-ton self-loading, self-dumping log barges, the largest in the world.
